Barney is northeast of Mosquero. It is the farthest of
the mission, being 60 miles distant, all but 7 miles being
country road. Barney is mentioned by Father Lammert as being a
mission, but until 1947, it did not have a church for many
years. The present chapel was a store, but was made into a nice
chapel by the people and adorned with a beautiful statue of St.
Lawrence, its patron saint.
