Main Street Facelift
Main street Mosquero recently had a facelift, thanks to the efforts of the Mosquero School's Roundup Technology and the Digital Media Entrepreneur's Curriculum.  They have plastered and painted the storefronts of several businesses and have painted murals depicting historical and community culture.  They call it "Painting the Town!".  This project has been featured in the March 2009 edition of the Harding County Roundup News, the March 25, 2009 Union County Leader.  It was filmed as a news clip for KOB-TV in Albuquerque with the help of Tony Carlson of Multiple Minds Educational Foundation.  The students have shared their story on the Disney Radio so look for the documentary to surface somewhere on national media.      Tucumcari Artist, Doug Quarles, a muralist and fine artist, has been the instructor and advisor for the project.  Teacher and sponsor, Donna Hazen, oversees the whole project but enjoys having the students take the initiative and learn while they work.  Lead artists are Jerome Wheeler and Gabriel Trujillo.  All the students in the Media Curriculum at Mosquero Schools have participated in some way with the project.
The project has been funded by donations of paint, hats, gloves and coveralls from Jerry's Welding & Dozer Service.  Plaster and equipment was donated by the Wheeler Bus Fleet Service.  Mike Sanchez, a contractor, volunteered his labor and equipment, Pat & Erma Trujillo paid to have their own plastering done.  Cash was donated by the Roundup Technology students in the amount of $3,500.  A Rural Revitalization Initiative grant from Dr. Jim Holloway and the Rural Education Division made the project possible.
