Mosquero is conveniently located just a short drive from the breathtaking views of the New Mexico ranges of the Rocky Mountains.

Mosquero started as a settlement for the construction of the Dawson Railway in 1906. This stretch of rail was built from Tucumcari to the coal fields in Dawson by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The railroad was removed in 1964.

"Mosquero" is a Spanish word used to convey a swarm of flies, fleas or mosquitoes.

During the 1920s and 1930s dry ice was produced here because of the presence of the Bravo Dome, a huge carbon dioxide gas field beneath Harding County.

The community also boosts of the rich tradition of cattle ranching being surrounded by some of the largest cattle ranches in existence today.

Today Mosquero is primarily a cattle ranching community with County Government located in the historic Court House at Third and Pine Streets.

Traditional small town values and traditions make Mosquero an ideal community in New Mexico.
