Governor Bill
Richardson today announced that Sony Pictures' comedy Did You
Hear About the Morgans?, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh
Grant, will shoot in New Mexico.
When a high-powered New York couple witnesses a murder, they are
placed in a witness-protection program in a small Wyoming town in
Did You Hear About the Morgans?.
The comedy will film for 25 days in and around Roy, Pecos, Santa Fe,
Galisteo and Los Alamos from early May through June. The production
plans to hire at least 75 local crew members, plus over 1000
background talent. Additional filming will take place in New York.
The film is written and directed by
Marc
Lawrence (Music and Lyrics, Two Weeks Notice).
Martin Shafer and
Liz Glotzer produce.
Anthony Katagas
is the executive producer.

Why Roy? According to
reports, film scouts were travelling through small towns looking for a
suitable site when they were met by local resident, Tuda Libby Crews.
She showed them what Harding County had to offer and they liked what
they saw. The homestyle hospitality and family values of the community
were exactly what they were looking for.
David
Manzanares, who grew up in Abiquiu,
hosted a meeting with local residents to discuss the process of filming
in Roy. The company will bring in their trailers and equipment and
set up for shooting.
Several buildings in Roy will be modified to fit the needs of the film,
at the company's expense. Sony Pictures plans to hire local
residents as extras.
Casting Call to be
held on April 8 from 3-7 pm at the Harding County Community Building. Harding County residents are eager to help
locate the places and resources needed by the company, hoping of course,
that this is just the beginning and the movie industry will find their
experience in Roy to be positive and consider coming back again.

There
was a lot of excitement at the meeting,
Movie
will be G rated and hopefully will be out by Christmas 2009.
Name
of movie is “Did you hear about the Morgans?”
Shooting
will take place in New York, Wyoming and Roy, New Mexico.
Actors
are: Sarah Jessica Parker,
Hugh Grant (her movie husband) and Sam Elliott (the marshall)
and Mary Steenburgen.
Story
of movie is that of a high powered couple from New York, Sarah is in
real estate and Hugh is a lawyer and their busy lives in New York causes
a strain on their marriage.
Somehow they end up in Roy and relax and enjoy life together!
Setting
is year 2009 and some improvements on the buildings will take place by
the movie company -
Sony-Columbia.
The reason
Roy was picked out of several places considered, was the layout of the
main street as a person enters into town also the friendly people and
their family values.
Casting will
probably start June 1st and props and extras will be from
Roy. Different people from the crew will be coming before hand.
April and May
There
will be advertising and promotion of the movie and this hopefully will
help put Roy on the map.
We
are hoping there will be other movies made in Roy.
