The next regular meeting is
January 9 at
6:00 pm in Roy at the Community Building.
ASCG Inc. of Albuquerque is the engineering
company in charge of building the airport.
The County entered into an Agreement with
Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., from Phoenix, Arizona to do an environment assessment (EA). The purpose of this
assessment is to document FAA's determination as to whether or not
the proposed new airport has the potential for significant
environmental impacts. The level of analysis will be sufficient to
understand the purpose and need of the proposed new airport; will
identify reasonable alternatives, including those as presented in
the airport site selection study (including a "no-action"
alternative) and will assess the proposed new airport's potential
environmental impacts and determine whether any impacts will be
significant. If the proposed new airport and its alternatives will
not cause impacts within specific categories of environmental
resources, a brief statement will be presented to describe the
factual basis for the conclusion of no significance. The estimated
duration of the EA process and FAA's issuance of an environmental
determination is 12 months.
There will be one public meeting
during study with two representatives from Kimley-Horn and they will
review the draft of the EA. A Power Point presentation will be
included. A summary of issues raised at the public meeting as well
as responses to substantive comments, will also be included in the
Environmental Assessment's appendixes.
Construction is due to begin in 2006.
