Jose
Abenicio (Abe) Martinez, a resident of Roy, NM since 1984
passed away November 14, 2007, following an extended illness. José
was born in Mosquero, NM on January 21, 1944. He is preceded
in death by his father, Conrado Martinez, who passed away June 7, 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Martinez, of Roy, NM, his mother,
Escolastica Martinez; one sister, Vickie Martinez, both of Mosquero, NM;
his daughter, Elaine Martinez-Gonzales and her husband Leroy Gonzales of
Las Vegas, NM; his son, Jose Abenicio Martinez, Jr., of Roy, NM.
Four special Grandchildren, Ashleigh Renee Martinez, Aaron Ray Martinez,
Jaymes (JR) Gonzales, and Ace Jiovanni Gonzales. Aunts and Uncles:
Lorenzo & Juanita Martinez, Sam Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Lily
Vigil, Annie & Secundino Baca, Art & Pauline Pacheco, Juan & Jose
Pacheco, Frank & Bonnie Pacheco, Cleofas & Helen Pacheco, Victor &
Gloria Arguello, Phil & Celina Pacheco, Molly Pacheco, Rita Pacheco, and
Delma Pacheco; his in-laws: Mary Louise Vigil, Edward & Levina Martinez,
John & Viola Whorton, Gloria Montoya Silva, and numerous nephews,
nieces, and friends.
Pallbearers were Art Pacheco, Martin Pacheco, Andres Pacheco, Cleofas
Pacheco, Juan Pacheco, Frank Pacheco, Gabriel Montano, Edward Martinez,
Nick Archuleta, Bonifacio Ebell, Alfredo Gallegos.
Eulogy was delivered by Antonio "Gunner" Trujillo.
As per his wished, cremation has taken place. a rosary was recited
at St. Joseph church in Mosquero, NM on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at
7:00 pm. and Funeral mass celebrated at St. Joseph Church on Monday
November 19, 2007 at 11:00 am.

He was the son of the late Roy and Mozelle Brock Miller, who were
members of pioneer families in West Texas. Born on July 3, 19147,
Rusty graduated from Brownfield High School in 1975. He later
earned a BA at Texas Tech University, where he was an honor student.
He worked for Glen Glenn Sound in Hollywood, California for many
years where he helped produce motion pictures and television
series. He later; became a restaurant owner in Tyler, Texas and
invested much of his career in restaurant industry management. He
reside in Lubbock, for the past 20 years and was visiting friends in
California at the time of his passing.
Rust was an intellectual entrepreneur, a tireless visionary, and an
outstanding writer who was working on a book on spiritual economics.
In keeping with Rusty’s wishes, his ashes were spread along the
Alamocita Creek Canyon on his family’s ranch near Roy, that he loved
so much.

Margaret
Ruth Hill, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since
1950, died Sunday, December 2, 2007.
She is survived by five sons,
Wayne Hill and wife, Dona of San Angelo, TX, Glenn Hill and wife,
Charlene of Williams, CA, Max Hill and wife, Latricia, Larry Hill
and wife, Patsy, and Terry Hill and wife, Dawn, all of Albuquerque;
12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Boyd and
husband, Jim of Bloomfield, NM, Martha Clavel and husband, Calvin of
Eagle Butte, SD; brother, Bill
Myers and wife, Helen of Los Alamos, NM.
She was preceded in death
by her husband of 66 years, J. Howard Hill in 2005.
Ruth was born
and raised in Mills, NM and attended the Western Business School in
Albuquerque where she met Howard and they married in 1939. They
settled in the town of Edgewood, NM until 1950 when they relocated
to Albuquerque.

Leo Mata,
79, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at his residence in Mosquero
following an extended illness.
Mr. Mata was born Oct. 22, 1928 in Mosquero. He was a member of the St.
Joseph's Catholic Church in Mosquero. He served in the U.S. Army for
three years during WWII and later served in the U.S. Air Force for four
years during the Korean conflict. He was a true cowboy, who loved the
outdoors and worked at several ranches in the Mosquero area, his family
said. He also was a talented singer and guitar player.
Surviving Mr. Mata are his brother, Ermenio (Corrine) Mata, his sister,
Faye Walker, and nieces and nephews, Carrie (Nick) Archuleta, Della
Rawdon, Evelyn Baca, Bert (Shirley) Mata, Tommy, Steve and Vicente Mata,
Theresa Martinez, Louise (Tommy) Arguello, Rita (Jose) Palos, Edmund
Mata, Lillian Lujan, Frances (Richard) Sedillo and Annette Mata. He is
also survived by 30 great-nieces and great-nephews and 27
great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vicente and Carolina Mata,
sisters Paublita and Mary Alice Mata.
Services: At 6 p.m. Monday a rosary will be recited at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church in Mosquero. At 11 a.m. Tuesday a mass of resurrection
will be celebrated at St. Joseph's. Stephen Imbarrato will
be the celebrant at the mass. Pallbearers will be Vicente Mata, Bert
Mata, Tommy Mata, Edmund Mata, Nick Archuleta, Joseph Trujillo Ted Baca
and Raymond Trujillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Cordova, Steve
Vigil, Juan Pacheco, Arnold Miera, Christy Arguello, Becky Archuleta
Marquez, Mary Laumbach and Petra Laumbach.

Elma Lee
"Bill" Randel, age 96, of Springer and former
resident of Roy, passed away at MCMC in Raton on November 12, 2007.
She was born on March 11, 1911 in Roy, the daughter of James W. and
Ida Love Johnson. She worked many years as bookkeeper and secretary
for Floersheim's and the Roy Public Schools. The Senior Citizens,
crossword puzzles, and baseball games on TV were her favorite past
times. She is preceded in death by her husband Terrol Randel and 8
brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Jimmie Rogers of
Springer, daughter and brother-in-law Bobbie and Robert French of
Springer. Grandchildren Cindy and Clayton of Kountze, Texas,
Becky and Victor Archuleta of Cimarron, New Mexico, Bret and JoAnn
Rogers of Denver, Colorado, Randy and Andrea French of Moab, Utah,
Joe and Angela Rogers of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Michael French,
and special granddaughter Angela Gonzales of Albuquerque, New
Mexico. 13 grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral
services are pending.

Edgar
"EDD" Dale Mitchell, 81, of Taos died Nov. 5.
He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico. He had lived in Taos since
1960. He was born into a ranching family in Roy and was involved
with farming and ranching his whole life. He served in the Navy
during World War II. He was recognized both professionally and for
his service to the community with many awards. He was an early
member of the Taos Winter Sports Club. As a longtime member of the
Lions Club he proudly cared for the historic Tio Vivo carousel. He
was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and was actively involved
with its work in the community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelley Harper Mitchell;
and son, Harper Mitchell.
He is survived by his three children, Mary Elizabeth (Randy)
Hughes of Austin, Texas, Mimi Charles (Bill Mitchell) of Maui,
Hawaii, and Matt (Esther) Mitchell; siblings, Sovola Slade and
Elaine Olson of Santa Fe, and Chet Mitchell of Taos; longtime
companion, Kathleen Sheridan-Cooper of Taos; and many other
relatives.
Services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at 10 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 16.

Tanny Marie Lovato,
Age 45, a resident of La Mesilla, passed away
on Friday, October 12, 2007 following a courageous fight
with cancer. She was born to Marcelino and Dorothy Lujan in Roy, NM
on January 13, 1962. She was preceded in death by her father,
Marcelino Lujan; maternal grandparents, Celia Lucero and Victoriano
Padilla; paternal grandparents, Jose Ignacio Lujan and Magdalena
Gallegos; very special mother-in-law, Carlota Lovato and
sister-in-law, Christella Lovato.
She was an exceptional wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and
friend. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband and sons
and was totally devoted to her family. She home schooled her two
sons from kindergarten through high school. She was very active in
the local home school support group. Tanny was a dedicated and firm
believer in her savior Jesus Christ. Tanny will be greatly missed by
all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Amos Lovato of La
Mesilla; sons, Stephen and Aaron Lovato of La Mesilla; mother,
Dorothy Lujan-Valdez and companion Arturo Arguello of Wagon Mound;
brother, David Lujan of La Mesilla; close father-in-law, Elfego
Lovato Sr. of La Mesilla; brothers-in-law, Jake Lovato and wife
Anita of La Villita, Elfego Lovato Jr. and wife Pat of La Villita,
Toby Lovato of Santa Fe, Philip Lovato of La Mesilla;

Ella B. Fluhman

82, of
Mills, passed away Wednesday Oct. 3, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas, after a
lengthy illness. Ella was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Sierra Madre, Calif.,
to Otto and Bertha Buhler. She was the wife of Warner Fluhman for 51
years and a lifelong rancher of Harding County.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Bertha Buhler,
husband Warner, sister and brother-in-law Bertha and Roger Lauber of
California and brother-in-law Tony Fluhman of Mills.
She is survived by her five children: daughters Rosemarie Mackey and
husband Harold of Solano, Heidie Barley and husband Steve of Hope,
Marlene Reeves and husband Ted of Etter, Texas; sons Ernest Warner
Fluhman, Jr. of Mills, and Otto Fluhman and wife Sheila of Mills. She is
also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Oct. 8 in Roy at the Roy Cemetery with Ray

Thomas "Jack" Moore
, 92, of Roy, NM, passed away in Denver, CO, Tuesday, September 4, 2007.
He was born November 2, 1914, in Folett, TX. the son of Fred C.
and Alice E. Brooks Moore. He was a member of the First Baptist
church of Roy.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lee Moore;
sisters Lucille Dennis and Dorothy Swain; and a brother Fred C. Moore,
Jr.
Jack is survived by two nieces, Deanna Jane Latterell and husband
Fayette, and Rosemary Spiknall and husband Thomas; along with numerous
great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Roy, Monday,
September 10, with Rev. John Spruill officiating. Burial followed
in the Roy Cemetery.

Patrick
Ryan Hartley, of Roy, New Mexico died Wednesday, Aug. 15th in
a small plane crash near Mosquero, New Mexico.
Thirty-two year old Ryan
Hartley was born in Raton, New Mexico on Nov. 9, 1974.
Ryan was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He devoted his life
to his entire family. His heart and soul thrived on the family's ranch
near Roy. Ryan's dedication to his family, his work, his friends and his
way of life were surpassed by none. He was a cowboy through and through
and a consummate construction worker starting at a very early age. He
was fun loving and hardworking. Ryan will be deeply missed by all who
knew him.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Enrico and Gemma (Noni)
Volpato, and his grandfather Patrick Hartley. He is survived by his wife
of ten years, Melissa and his son, Pacen, his parents, Ray and Doris
Hartley, and his grandmother, Ruth Hartley, all of the family's ranch
near Roy.
He is also survived by his four sisters and their families, Kristi Hunt
(Lee) of El Dorado, Lenni Trujillo (Tanner) of Abiquiu, Tandra Fudge
(Chris) of Roswell, and Amy Hartley of Lubbock. He had one niece, Logan
and two nephews, Raylee Hunt and Jackson Ryan Fudge. He is also survived
by countless other relatives and friends. His wife is granddaughter of
Jack and AnnaBí Lane, of Muleshoe.
Services for Patrick Ryan Hartley will be held on the family ranch on
Maddox Rd. on the ranch's top country near Roy on Monday, Aug. 20 at 10
a.m. Interment will be on the family ranch immediately following. In
lieu of flowers, a scholarship memorial fund for his son, Pacen Hartley
has been set up in his name at First National Bank of New Mexico in

Jeffrey Phelps Lane
- Jeff’s life was taken suddenly when his single-engine airplane
crashed on The Bell Ranch, Wednesday, August 15. He is survived by his
wife, Janet and their three children, Travis (Kari), Sarah and Brandon.
Jeff was a proud grandfather to Torin, age 3, Macie, age 1 and Mason,
age 1.
Jeff was born in Lake Forest, Illinois on May 11, 1950. He grew up in
Libertyville, IL until he was age 8, and from the age of 8 to 13 he
resided in Lake Forest. At the age of 13 he attended Kents Hill School
located in Kents Hills, Maine and graduated in 1969. Jeff attended
Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO, where he majored in Ag
business. He graduated from Colorado State in 1974 and began working
full-time at the Bell Ranch, where he has been employed since. Initially
involved in the Bell’s registered herd, Jeff became involved in
strategic issues impacting the ranch. As President of the Bell Ranch,
Jeff led the ranch’s efforts to develop a new breed of cattle and
encouraged a much greater focus on wildlife and water management.
Jeff was first and foremost a family man with a deep devotion to his
wife, Janet of 33 years and their three children. Jeff had a passion for
the west and a love for the Bell Ranch where he had lived for over 30
years. He raised all of his three children on the Bell Ranch and was
very active in the ranching community in New Mexico. Jeff personified
the cowboy way of life and encouraged his children to actively
participate in rodeo and ranch activities.
Besides his significant focus on Bell Ranch activities, Jeff was
active in both Lane Family and other businesses. He was a director of
several banks owned by the Lane Family as well as a bank in New Mexico.
Jeff also sat on the boards of GBC, a public company and of Lane
Industries. Jeff was an active contributor who challenged conventional
thinking and encouraged a long-term view of value creation for owners.
Jeff hosted the annual Trail Ride at the Bell Ranch which was a
celebration of the cowboy life and was attended by both real and
aspiring cowboys. Jeff was a sportsman, with a passion for outdoor
activities, a skilled skier and avid tennis player. He was an
accomplished pilot and greatly enjoyed flying and airplanes.
Last, but not least, Jeff was a people person who enjoyed being with
people of all types; whether they were successful business executives,
celebrities, politicians or a factory, hotel or ranch employee. Jeff
showed a deep and sincere interest in everyone he met and especially
those who worked for the Lane Family businesses. As a director he was
always questioning the impact of decisions on employees. He cared deeply
about people and had a deep and genuine concern for their problems and
issues.

William Bryan Huckabee age 42 passed away in Monterey,
California July 11, 2007 of a brain aneurysm from a blood infection.
Bryan was born in Albuquerque on October 14, 1964. He is preceded in
death by his grandparents Cliff and Ilma Rhodes and Bill and Nell
Huckabee. He is survived by his wife Lillian, his precious daughter
Bari, his parents Brad and Jerre Huckabee of Sun Lakes Arizona,
sister Denise and her husband Leif Johnson of Silver City, sister
Diane and her husband Blake Harper of Albuquerque, nephews and
nieces Roy and Julie Johnson, J.J., Jarret, and Preston Harper,
uncles Teddy and Danny Rhodes, aunt Bernell Black and many friends
he had all over the world.
Bryan attended school at the Albuquerque Academy and graduated from
Sandia High in 1983 where he lettered in football and baseball. He
received a nursing degree in Seattle, Washington and went on to have
a wonderful career in designing, building and managing spas in
Korea, Hawaii, Caribbean, Florida, Texas and California. While
living in Hawaii, he participated in 2 Ironman competitions on Kona.
Bryan loved the ocean and mountain biking. His favorite saying was
keep your mind right and your body tight for a good day. God bless
you Bryan and may your spas in heaven be beautiful. A celebration of
Bryan's life will be
held on August 4th.

Frank H.
Whiting, 79, a resident of Bosque Farms for 15 years,
passed away after an extended illness on Friday July 6, 2007.
He is survived by his sisters, Pauline Cox of Lubbock, TX; Mildred
Garms and husband, Fred of Bosque Farms, NM; Nancy Meyer of Socorro,
NM; Bobby Jane Whiting also of Bosque Farms and sister-in-law, Ester
Whiting of El Paso, TX. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews,
great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special friends who
include Lynette Wilson and son, Jacob and Darla.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, John and
Missouri "Bob" Whiting; brothers, John and James Whiting; and
brothers-in-law, Bruce Cox and Charles Meyer; and niece, Jane Duke.
Frank was born in Roy, NM on October 18, 1927. He
served in the United States Army during 1946. After serving in the
military, he returned home to Roy where he worked in construction
for several years. Later he took over the family farm. Frank retired
after moving to Bosque Farms and working for Phillips 66 for 10
years.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 25,
2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM.

Liberato "Levi" Garcia, age 73, a resident of Roy, N.M.,
passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in Roy. He was born
in Garita, N.M. on July 25, 1933, to the late Juan R. Garcia and
Rumalda Martinez Garcia who survives him. He was united in marriage in Trujillo, N.M., on Feb. 13, 1952, to Conferina "Confie" Gonzales.
He was a Park Superintendent for the State Parks & Recreation and a
lifetime rancher, avid horseman who loved God, Family and horses. He
was known in the team roping and rodeo world as a "Living Legend"
and he was featured in many magazines.
He set a good example, could easily make friends, was a mentor to
many rodeo champions and an inspiration to all that knew him. He had
a good sense of humor, and a kind word to all those he touched.
He was a member of PRCA, U.S.T.R.C., (three- time World Champion
Century Roper), NMRA, Rope the Rockies, Original Coors Association,
OTRA and the Texas Ropers Association and numerous rodeo
associations.
He was a very active member of the Holy Family Parish in Roy and
served as mayordomo and choir member.
He was preceded in death by his father: Juan R. Garcia;
grandparents: Margarito and Donaciana Garcia and grandson: Dathan
Garcia.
He is survived by his loving wife: Confie Garcia of the family home
in Roy; mother: Rumalda Garcia of Tucumcari, N.M.; children: John
Garcia and wife Fara of Springer, N.M., Jimmy Garcia and wife Debra
and Jeanette Garcia all of Roy, and Danny Garcia and wife Janie of
Las Vegas, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren;
brother: Facundo Garcia and wife Helen of Tucumcari; aunts: Kana
Montoya and husband Abelino and Magdalena Lucero all of Albuquerque;
numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Sunday evening at 7
at the Holy Family Church in Roy. Funeral and memorial services will
be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Roy High School Gymnasium
with Father Stephen Imbarrato as celebrant. Interment will follow at
the Roy Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Levi
Garcia, John Paul Garcia, Derek Lovato, Joe Dan Lovato, Blair
Clavel, Cody Hazen, Todd Kimble and Bryce Dugger. Serving as
honorary bearers will be: Dathan Garcia and Mario Trujillo.

Jacob
Trujillo passed away suddenly at his home in Mosquero,
New Mexico early Saturday morning, May 12, 2007.
Jacob Trujillo was born March 22, 1950 in Springer, New
Mexico. He had been a lifetime Mosquero resident. He
attended and graduated from the Mosquero School system. At the
time of his death, he was the Area Maintenance Supervisor for District 4
of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. He had been an
active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mosquero, and had
been a Eucharistic Minister for that parish.
Surviving is his wife, Theresa of Mosquero; two sons,
Phillip Trujillo and Gabriel Trujillo, both of Mosquero; seven brothers,
Andres Trujillo of Tucumcari, Eddie Trujillo of Brush, Colorado, Richard
Trujillo of Rio Rancho, Freddie Trujillo of Cimarron, and Joseph
Trujillo, Thomas Trujillo and Raymond Trujillo, all of Mosquero; three
sisters, Rita Lind of Albuquerque, Theresa Copland of Wheeler, Texas,
and Elizabeth Trujillo of Santa Fe, his parents-in-law, Louis J. and
Eloisa Flores of Santa Rosa; brothers-in-law Max Flores and Angelica,
Kenneth Flores and Lucy, all of Santa Rosa, and Ted Flores and Pam and
Paul Flores and Melody, all of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents Andres (Tito)
and Dominga Trujillo and by a sister Rachel Saint.
The
Rosary for Jacob Trujillo will be recited Thursday evening, May 17 at 7 pm and
Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Friday morning at 11 am at St.
Joseph's Catholic Church in Mosquero with interment following in the
family plot of the Mosquero Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andres, Eddie, Richard, Freddie,
Joseph, Thomas and Raymond Trujillo, Max, Kenneth, Paul and Ted Flores.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews, godsons and his many
friends.

Loyal Hope Garrett, 87, died Friday, May 3, 2007, at
the Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Garrett was born March 13, 1920 in Loyal, Okla. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Logan. She was reared in
the Roy and Solano, N.M. schools and graduated from Roy High
School in 1942. From 1964 until 1986, when she retired, she
owned and operated the Garrett Trading Post in Logan. She was a member of Logan Senior Citizens group. Surviving Mrs. Garrett are numerous nieces and nephews cousins
including Susan (Darrell) Boulware of Logan. She was preceded
in death by her husband Loie Garrett in 1977. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Dunn Memorial Chapel in
Tucumcari. The Burial will be in the family plot at the
Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Services: At 10:30 AM on Wednesday at the Dunn Memorial Chapel in

Fleta McDonald Forsman, of Abilene, TX, passed away
Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the age of 93. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date in Albuquerque,
NM. Local arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil
Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. February 7, 1914, Fleta was born in Neosho, MO to Thomas Franklin
McDonald and Lenora (Payne) McDonald. McDonald County in
Missouri was named in honor of her family. She graduated from
high school in New Mexico and attended the University of New
Mexico. During World War II, Fleta worked on the B17
aircrafts for Lockheed. She later became a technician for
research and development for the Sandia Corporation in
Albuquerque, New Mexico. She worked on the first computer that
was installed for the Sandia Corporation. In 2004, Fleta moved
to Abilene from Albuquerque to be near her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Albuquerque.
Fleta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto
Forsman; two brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her
daughter, Peggy Trotter and her husband, Dr. Bob Trotter of
Abilene; four grandchildren, Katherine Trotter of San Antonio,
TX, Kristine Taylor of Tulsa, OK, Karoleigh Armstrong of
Abilene, and Robert Trotter of Lewisville; five
great-grandchildren, William Paige Gollihar III, Trotter
Gollihar, John Taylor, Ellen Taylor and Val Armstrong; and
two nephews, Clyde McDonald and Tom McDonald. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the

Maestas, 68, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly
of Roy, NM, passed away on May 4, 2007 peacefully at home with
his loving family by his side and is now in heaven with our
Lord. Mr. Maestas is the beloved husband to Mrs. Mary Ann
Maestas, married for 50 years. Mr. Maestas is the beloved father
to Sylvia Maestas, Larry Maestas and wife, Diane, Annita
Gallegos and husband, Edward, Gerty Maestas and husband Joe
Herrera, Juan Maestas, Robert Maestas, Pete Maestas and wife,
Terri. Mr. Maestas is also survived by four sisters, Stella
Martinez and husband, Joe, Nadine Ybarra, Betty Gonzales and
husband, Joe, Gloria Arguello and husband, Victor; one brother,
Joe Maestas and wife, Jane; six grandchildren, Felix, Steven,
Richard and wife, Danielle, Anthony, Sylvia Anne and Mario; two

"Mary"Aurora Delfina Griego-Navarro, 86, passed away at her home in Mosquero, New
Mexico, early Monday morning, April 23, 2007. Aurora Navarro was born November 24, 1920, in Mosquero,
and had been a life-time resident. She had worked for many
years for the Mosquero School System as a cook. She was a
member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mosquero. Survivors include her daughter Isabel Vigil and husband
Rafael of Mosquero; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and
two great-great-grandchildren; a sister Eleanor Gonzales of
Mosquero; and a brother Joe Griego of Tucumcari. Aurora was preceded in death by her husband Alex P.
Navarro in 1981, and by a son Fred Navarro in 1994. Rosary was to be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm
and Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Thursday, April 26, at
10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Reverend Father
Stephen Imbarrato celebrant. Interment will be in the Mosquero

Susanna H. Rigoni, age 78, a long time resident of
Wagon Mound and Roy, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, April 22,
2007, at the Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
She was born in Piedra
Lumbre, New Mexico on September 13, 1929, to the late
Henry Monnet and Eliza Apodaca Monnet.
She was united in marriage in Raton, New Mexico on June 7, 1954
to Anthony Gabriel Rigoni.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and
Eliza Monnet; husband: Tony Rigoni; great-grandson: Dwayne Cody
Shaw and brother: George Monnet.
She is survived by her daughters and son: Mae Shaw and
husband Gary of Edgewood, New Mexico, Henrietta Rigoni of Los

Edna Mae Arbuckle Hoogerhuis,
80, passed away in the Odyssey Hospice in Amarillo, Texas, Saturday
morning, April 21, 2007. Edna Mae was born March 29, 1927, in Roy, New Mexico to
Arthur and Tonita Schrum. She had been a member of the
Mosquero Community Church. She operated the H & R Block Tax
Office in Tucumcari, for many years, and she and her late husband,
Edward Arbuckle, ranched for many years in the Mosquero and Roy
area. Surviving are two daughters, Wilma Valdez and husband
Jose of Panhandle, Texas, and Lydia Webster and husband Charles of
Des Moines, New Mexico; a son-in-law Earl Mitchell of California;
grandchildren Ed and Bill Cone, Bonnie Keelin, Lily and Heidi
Mitchell, Amy Russell, Jarrod, Daniel and Joshua Webster; and
numerous great-grandchildren. Edna Mae was preceded in death by her daughter Carolyn
Mitchell, her husband Edward Arbuckle, and her husband Dick
Hoogerhuis. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 24,
in the Mosquero Community Church with Reverend Roy Mitchell
officiating. Interment followed in the Mosquero Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Cone, Kit Cone, Mat Russell,

Jesse Dale Jordan, 89,
died 12:26 a.m. March 26, 2007 in Jane Phillips Medical Center
in Bartlesville, Ok.
He was born July 2, 1917 in Roy, New Mexico to Benjamin C.
and Isma Russell Jordan. At age 2, he moved with his family
to a farm in the Newton Community where he attended school and
graduated at age16 from Newton High School.
He married his lifelong friend, Dale Horn on June 3, 1938 in
Mills, New Mexico. After 61 years of marriage, she preceded him
in death in
February of 2000. They began their life together on his
family farm, which he still owned at the time of his death. They
made their home in northeastern New Mexico until moving to
Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1994. Although he made many wonderful
friends and enjoyed living in Bartlesville, his heart remained
on the land in New Mexico.
His working career included his time in farming/ranching and
20 years employment with John Deere equipment. He retired in
1982 as office manager of Springer Rural Electric Cooperative
in Springer, New Mexico. As a reflection of his work, he
collected old tools and anything relating to John Deere.
His love of the Lord was expressed in Baptist church work all
his life. In northeastern New Mexico .he served many years as
president of the Baptist Men's organization and helped establish
seven new churches in his home area.
He contributed regularly to the support of missions and to
the Baptist Children's Home. The highlight of every week for
him was Sunday and the people of his local church were very
special to him. The day of his death he attended church and
taught his men's Sunday School class at Eastern Heights Baptist
Church in Bartlesville, Ok.
He was always eager for new adventure and one that included
helping others was better still so he thoroughly enjoyed his 17
years as a member of Springer Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two
sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Carol and Tom
Wesson of Bartlesville; Cheryl and Ed Dobbs of Dallas; and Linda
Jordan of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Michael and Jennifer
Wesson of Fresno, California; Stephen Wesson of Washington, D.C.; Brian
Dobbs; Katie and Jason Besly; Christopher Gold; and
great-granddaughter, Emma Besly all of Dallas plus 26 much loved
nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law.
His family invites his friends to join them at a visitation
Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Walker Brown Funeral Home in
Bartlesville or at
the graveside services conducted at Fairmont Memorial Cemetery
in Raton, New Mexico at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007.

Rhe Shurbet,
Age 89 - A resident of New Mexico for nearly 70 years, passed
away in Santa Fe after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Shurbet was born
in Hale Center, Texas, on July 7, 1917, and moved to New Mexico
with her husband, former New Mexico State Senator Lon V. “Pete”
Shurbet. She retired from the United States Postal Service,
after serving as Postmaster in her home of Roy, New Mexico, for
29 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Burt Owen Cloud; husband, Lon V. “Pete” Shurbet; and son, Phil
Owen Shurbet. Rhe is survived by her daughter Lou Ann Shurbet of
Santa Fe, NM; granddaughter, Ona and husband Seth and great-
granddaughter, Hattie; granddaughter Quenna; and grandsons: Drew
and Steve. Her funeral service will take place in the United
Church of Roy, in Roy, NM, on Saturday, February 17, 2007, at
1pm, followed by burial at Solano Cemetery in Solano, NM.

Stuart Reid Clavel,
son of Calvin and Martha Clavel was born in Pierre, SD, July 10,
1962. He joined 3 brothers, Randy of Denver, Colorado, Ted of
Mankato, Minnesota and Troy or Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He attended school at Cheyene-Eagle Butte for 12 years, and
helped on the family ranch. He then moved to Rapid City, SD and
enrolled in the Black Hills Workshop. He lived and worked there
for 24 years.
Stuart had a fond love for animals, and special attachments to
his horse, Buck, his dog, Frosty, and pet deer, Dearie. He had
a gift and a touch that animals understood. They were not only
his friends but his guardians. Stuart became quite a horseman
and fearlessly rode his horse many miles. He enjoyed helping
his family working with the cattle. He also enjoyed riding
motorcycles with his brothers and watching rodeos. He never
forgot his friends, teachers and neighbors and always remembered
their names.
During his years at the Black Hills Workshop he developed many
close friendships with his fellow clients and also with the
staff who cared for him. He was able to attain a certain amount
of independence through his work and was able to enjoy many
social events with his friends and staff members.
Stuart lost his courageous fight with cancer on January 6,
2007.
He is survived by his mother and father, Martha and Calvin
Clavel, his three brothers, Randy (fiancé Linda Anderson), Ted
(wife Linda), Troy (wife Colleen). He is also survived by his
uncle and aunt, Jody and Patsy Clavel (Roy, NM), uncle and aunt
Bill and Helen Myers (White Rock, NM), uncle and aunt Jim and
Mary Boyd (Bloomfield, NM), and aunt Ruth Hill (Albuquerque,
NM) Others include his nephews, Callen, Brady, Chad, Tyler,

Leota
Hicks was born May 19, 1913 in Marysville,
Texas (near Gainesville). Before she was four years old, the
family moved to a farm at Plain, New Mexico (West of
Grady). They soon moved to another farm three miles from
Pleasant Hill. (Northeast of Clovis) She had several stories to
tell of walking to school, but in bad weather was able to use a
horse and wagon. As a young lady she attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and we have
it from her own handwriting that she was baptized at twelve
years old, along with other people, in a stock pond, in a
draw near Pleasant Hill in 1925. After graduating from Pleasant Hill High School in 1930, she attended New
Mexico Normal at Las Vegas which is now New Mexico
Highlands University This was during the Great
Depression which lasted from 1929 until the early years
of World War II. Leota was able to attend for only one
year due to lack of funds, and she worked in the library
as a supplement. From 1931 to 1935 Leota worked in Clovis, where she
worked at Woolworth’s. In 1935 she had saved enough to attend Eastern New Mexico University at
Portales for one term.
From 1936 to 1939 she lived in Amarillo, and
worked for the Resettlement Administration,
moving drought stricken farmers from the dust
bowl to the Rio Grande valley. Leota and Bob Hicks were married on November
28, 1936. They moved from Amarillo to the
farm northeast of Clovis in 1941. family began to work on trading the farm
near Clovis for the ranch at Roy. The
family moved to Roy in 1955. She worked for the Carbon Dioxide
Ice Plant at Solano during the
1960’s until the plant was closed
due to economic conditions. She worked one year for the Roy
Public Schools. She last worked
for the General Insurance Agency
(Lynn Crosthwait, Agent) in Roy
until it closed.
She played the piano for the Roy Baptist Church, on and off, from 1955 to
2005. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Hicks in December 1999. Survivors: Jon and Charlotte Hicks, White Rock NM; Sean and

Joe L. Sanchez, a resident of
Las Vegas, New Mexico, and former resident of Roy, and Black Lake,
passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Heart Hospital of New
Mexico in Albuquerque, following a brief illness at age 90. He was born May 2, 1916, in Palo Blanco, New Mexico to
the late Fidel Sanchez and Andrellita Archuleta Sanchez. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and was
assigned to the 200th Coast Artillery which was sent to the
Philippines. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese and
survived the infamous Bataan Death March, which consisted of no food
or water for 80 miles. He spent time in Cabanatuan, Camp
O'Donnel and in Japan for three and a half years of brutal
treatment, until 1945 when they were liberated and the war ended. In 1946, he married Maria Martinez and they had eight
children. Later he moved to Black Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Lorenzo;
a great-grandson Robert Trujillo; a son-in-law Charlie Martinez; a
great-nephew Michael Romero; eight sisters, including Margaret
Garcia, Eula LeDoux, Mollie Barela and Rafaelita Montoya and
four who died in infancy. He is survived by five daughters, Susana Martinez,
Rebecca Sanchez, and Olivia Rael and husband Dr. Rolando, All of Las
Vegas. Esther Sanchez of Alamosa, Colorado and Anna Sanchez of
Roy; two sons, Joe Sanchez Jr. of Elko, Nevada, and Gerard Sanchez
of Bernalillo; grandchildren Charlie Martinez Jr.. and Katerina,
Dante, Marissa, Areanna, and Kiara Rae, all of Las Vegas, Sharon
Sanchez and boyfriend Roger Lopez, and Richard Sanchez, all of Santa
Fe, Sarah Trujillo and husband Robert of Bernalillo, and Sylvia
Brown and husband Kevin of Hampton, Virginia; great-grandchildren
Jade Sanchez, and Jordan Baca; the mother of his children Maria
Sanchez; a sister Frances Sandoval and husband Alfred of Roy; and
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosary devotional services were conducted Monday
evening, January 29, and funeral services were conducted Tuesday
morning, January 30 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, with
Father John Brasher, celebrant. Interment followed at the
National Cemetery in Santa Fe, with full military honors.
