Wells Fargo Bank Closing

As many of you know, the Wells Fargo Bank in Roy is closing its doors on April 28, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.

I was informed of this issue Monday night about 6:00 p.m. and immediately started making phone calls to see what we could do to stop the closure. I spent several hours on the phone with people informing them of this issue. As we all know, we can not do without a bank in Harding County. This would be a HUGE inconvenience to the citizens, the villages, the county, the schools, and local businesses. It would also become a huge burden on the elderly to do their banking elsewhere. There would be a loss of four jobs in Harding County.

After talking with several people today, there may be something we can do to still have a bank in Harding County. You can call the Financial Instruction Division of the State of New Mexico and speak to the director - William Verant.  Here are several phone numbers you can call about the closing of the bank in Roy. You can call Adrian Martinez @ (505) 476 - 4569, or you can call the national banking licensing agency in Washington at (202) 874-5060. You may have a hard time getting anyone in Washington but you can leave a message.  Please express your views on the inconvenience it would be to everyone and that the nearest bank is 50 miles away. We also need to speak to our legislators about this issue. Please call or e-mail
Senator Harden @ (505) 986-4369,
charden@theosogroup.com,
Representative Brian Moore @ (505) 986-4467,
brian@ranchmkt.com
and call the Governors office or go to his web site @
http://www.governor.state.nm.us/index2.php and e-mail him .

I can't stress how important this is to stop the closing of our local bank.

Thanks for supporting Harding County.
