Old Levi |
|
by Doc Mayer |
One time, I worked for Levi,
When I was paying off some bills.
He's been my friend for quite a while,
Somehow, I thought he always will.
Old Levi was sure a roper,
The next roping's in his heart.
He wrecked when he tied hard and fast,
He'd roped a post before the start.
But long ago, he'd got over that
And he's still roping in the ring,
That didn't seem to slow him down,
It didn't mean a doggoned thing.
Levi was a gentle man.
Shake his hand, it told you that,
Not aggressive, full of anger,
A sort of roping diplomat.
He always had an easy smile,
Like it was judgment he's dismissing.
Ain't found too many lik him,
And I sure am gonna miss him!
He once came out to see our place,
That's a memory that's haunted,
And the last time I saw Levi
He was doing what he wanted! |
