The Senior citizens Nutrition Program is designed to
promote better health among Harding County's elderly citizens who are 60
years old and over and have the greatest economic need by providing
nutritious noon meals each weekday, supplemented by nutrition education
materials to encourage more healthful eating habits at home. The
Harding County Senior Program encourages seniors to attend the two meal
sites located in Harding County which are in Mosquero and Roy.
Attendees benefit also in socialization to ease the isolation and
loneliness that sometimes occurs with aging. The program provides
home-delivered meals to those seniors who are homebound or because of
serious illness, cannot attend the centers. Weekend and Holiday
meals are also offered.
Program goals were met for the first time last fiscal
year. Monetary donation goals from seniors were also met. As
participation continues to be on the rise this only means good things
for the seniors of Harding County.
Funding is made possible through the Older Americans
Act, USDA, participant contributions and Harding County Board of County
Commissioners.
The Harding county Senior Program has four employees.
Janet Benomo, Site Manager (18 years), Christine Trujillo, Program
Coordinator (16 years), Virginia Smith, Homemaker (10 years) and Diane
