Charlie A. Payton, 73, of Clovis, NM, died Friday, March 16, 2012,
at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel, 1430 Thornton, with Lloyd McCargish officiating.
Charlie was born February 19, 1939, to George Washington and Laura (Case) Payton in Roy, NM. He worked as a typewriter repairman at Office Center in Portales, NM. He went into farming, owned/operated Three Fringers Hauling, and worked with his son, David, at Paytons Auto. Charlie was a member of the NRA, Eagles, and Elks.
Survivors include mother of his children, Vera; five children, Kathy (Roger) Tesch of Albuquerque, NM, Lisa (Levi) Edwards of Portales, NM, Dawn (Dale) Lebow of Clovis, NM, David Payton (Tammy Tate) of Portales, NM, and Tina (Alan) Zachry of Portales, NM; his companion, Jeanette; her five children, Fred Norman of Clovis, NM, Wesley Norman of Jackson, TN, Keith (Lisa) Mathews of Memphis, TN, Mike Mathews of Memphis, TN, and Evelyn (Douglas) Bayless of Texarkana, TX; three brothers, George (Lois) Payton of Borger, TX, Robert (Carol) Payton of Utah, and Muggins (Sammie) Payton of Albany, OR; two sisters, Laura Fraiser of Nebraska, and Jenny (Jerry) Brown of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Laura; son, Andrew Lee Payton; two sisters, Georgia Starr and Gay Greer; and three brothers, Leon Payton, Allen Payton, and Larry Payton.
