Senior Nutrition Programs

Senior centers are the backbone of the aging network.  Senior centers are your first point of contact for information about resources and opportunities, including meals, for seniors of all income and ability levels.  Area agencies on Aging oversee and fund local organizations that provide a wide range of services, primarily through senior centers.

The Harding County Senior Citizens Nutrition Program is designed to promote better health among elderly citizens who are 60 years of age and over and have the greatest economic need by providing nutritious noon meals each weekday, supplemented by nutrition education materials to encourage more healthful eating habits at home.  The Harding County Senior Program encourages seniors to attend the two meal sites located inn Harding County, Travis Wood Senior Center in Roy and the Homesteader Senior Center in Mosquero.  Attendees benefit also from socialization to ease isolation and loneliness that sometimes occurs with aging.  The program provides home-delivered meals to those seniors who are homebound because of serious illness and cannot attend the centers.  Meals are served between the hours of 11:30 and 12:30 at both centers daily.

Funding is made possible through the Older Americans Act, USDA, Participant Contributions and the Harding County Board of County Commissioners.
